John Joe Mc Hugh currently teaches in the School of Engineering & Design Institute of Technology Sligo.Completed a military apprenticeship at Army Apprentice School, Department of Defence, graduated from University College Dublin and the Dublin Institute of Technology. Previous employment included, Mc Inerney Contracting/ Pearse Construction, John Paul Construction & FAS
Title: Brussels Exemplary Building Program.
Synopsis: In 2011, the regional government, Brussels-Capital, passed the Passivhaus Law. This law committed to an energy standard that would make Brussels the largest city in Europe to adopt one of the most stringent energy standard for buildings. This was achieved in a relatively short period, with a high level of political consensus and minimal commercial concern starting from building regulations that were less stringent than the Norm. This presentation will comment on the pathway to the delivery of Exemplary Buildings for this region.
